Program for Singapore Math Assessment (PSMA)
PSMA is the SIMCC’s social equity Programme for Singapore Math Assessment. PSMAโ€™s 2022 trial launch is offered free and measures Grades 5 and 6 students’ ability to use their mathematics knowledge and skills to meet real-life challenges. It will be expanded in 2023 for grades 1 to 10/11 students.

PSMA is open to all students from grades 5 and 6 (Primary 5 and 6) in year 2022: This assessment is available online ONLY. We will require a laptop or tablet with camera, where students will log in to take the assessment from our Online contest system.

About PSMA
PSMA is a social equity project to ensure a level playing field for all students and teachers by helping them improve math scores. Singaporeโ€™s 15 year old students were at the bottom of international rankings for mathematics in the early 1980s. By the early 1990s, Singaporeโ€™s grade 9 students emerged as #1 for mathematics for the Programme for International Assessments (PISA). How was this possible? Singapore gained independence after 146 years of British colonial rule. By the late 1970s, Singapore had succeeded in its national development and invested in research on teaching pedagogy and teacher training, while Math lecturers had developed a new Model Method to teach Singapore students mathematical concepts.

After more than 30 years of development and continued success in mathematics education, SIMCC wants to share the secrets of Singaporeโ€™s mathematics education SUCCESS with our partners. Included in PSMA are powerful diagnostics reports for teachers to utilize formative and summative assessment data to plan targeted and effective learning and teaching. We want to shift the focus of our education feedback loop from โ€œhindsightโ€ to โ€œforesight and insightโ€. Teachers, parents and students will have unprecedented opportunities to individualize and improve education into transformative education.
