Singapore and Asian Schools Math Olympiad (SASMO) is an international mathematics competition that is organised by Singapore International Math Contests Centre (SIMCC) and supported by non-profit foundations Scholastic Trust Singapore (STS) and SASMO Advisory Council (SAC) with more than 30,000 participants from 21 countries in 2019 & 2020.
The SASMO Team with the support of Advisory Council spend countless hours carefully developing contest papers which will touch on both school and Olympiad maths. This combined effort allows participants to do better compared to pure-Olympiad papers, since they are familiar with some questions and can put on their thinking caps for others, bringing out the inner mathematician in them.
With realistic and high standards, SASMO contests aim to stretch the untapped thinking potential of the student population, their participation in SASMO will help them improve in school mathematics as well as higher order thinking skills (HOTS).
SASMO caters to the top 40% of the student population and it aims to cultivate studentsโ interest in mathematical problem solving to develop mathematical intuition, reasoning, logical, creative and critical thinking.
SASMO is open to Year 1 to 13 (Primary 1 to A-Levels/STPM) Malaysian students.
All Malaysian students who have won Gold/ Silver/ Bronze Award in SASMO will be invited to join SIMOC (Singapore International Mathematics Olympiad Challenge) in Singapore and AIMO (Asia International Mathematical Olympiad). Malaysian students who have won Gold/ Silver Award will be invited to join STEAM AHEAD: IJMO (International Junior Math Olympiad) in Bali, Indonesia. Contest entry is available on a first come first served basis, so register as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
