American Mathematics Olympiad (AMO) is an affiliate of Math Olympiads for Elementary and Middle Schools, USA (MOEMS) and there are similar affiliates in Columbia, Iceland, Australia (APSMO), Philippines, China and India.


Created in 1977 by Dr. George Lenchner, an internationally known math educator, the Math Olympiads (MOEMS) went public in 1979. Last year, nearly 150,000 students from 6,000 teams worldwide participated in the Olympiads. All 50 states in US and about 30 other countries were represented.

Year 2-3: 15 non-routine problems (1 point each), total 15 points. To finish in 90 minutes

Year 4: 20 non-routine problems (1 point each), total 20 points.To finish in 90 minutes

Year 5-9: 25 non-routine problems (1 point each), total 25 points.To finish in 90 minutes

AMO questions are set in trilingual version – BAHASA, ENGLISH & CHINESE.

Calculators are NOT permitted.

Each participant receives a Certificate of Participation or an Award Certificate for winners below:

  • Gold Award
  • Silver Award
  • Bronze Award

All Gold, Silver and Bronze Award winners will be invited to join SIMOC. Gold and Silver Award winners will be invited to join IJMO. Each participant will get a Certificate of Participation.

All participating schools MUST have at least 10 students taking part.

All participants MUST register according to CURRENT Year Level in school.

IMPORTANT!!! AMO Registrations submitted without meeting minimum requirements will be automatically voided/ disqualified and no refund will be entertained.

Fill up the form with your student details then email the form back to, together with your bank-in slip.

AMO will be held in your school and no travelling is required.

We will send the AMO question papers to your school by post, a few days before competition’s sitting date. After the competition, the teacher-in-charge (PIC) appointed by your school will send the question papers (with solutions and answers) back to SMO by post, on the competition day itself.
